The danger of carbon monoxide and gases
A lot of gases cannot be detected by the human senses because they are odourless and colourless. Gases are used in all kind of places, at home natural gas is used to cook with and in a caravan or boat gas canisters with propane or butane are used. Everywhere gas is used there is a chance of a gas leak occurring, creating a life threatening situation. Another dangerous gas is carbon monoxide, which is released by incomplete combustion for example by gas stoves, ovens and boilers. All these gases can be lethal and therefore it is important to be alerted in time when the concentration in your house is too high.
One detector for multiple threats
The Smartwares RM337 Carbon monoxide and gas detector has a loud 85 dB alarm that alerts when carbon monoxide, butane, propane or natural gas is detected. The sensor is powered with the adapter by mains electricity and ensures you are protected 24 hours a day. The combination alarm is equipped with a hush button that temporarily disables the alarm, which can be used when a false alarm occurs.
LED indicators
The detector uses LED indicators to inform you what kind of threat is detected. The green LED will light up when the detector is connected to mains electricity, in this way you always know if it is active. If a dangerous concentration of gas is detected the alarm alerts and one of the red LEDs will light up showing you whether there is too much GAS or CO. This way you know exactly what is happening and are able take safety measures instantly.
Installation
The combination detector can be easily installed with screws. The detector should be placed at least 1.5 metres from the floor and at a minimum distance of 1.85 metres from combustion devices in order to function well. You can place the alarm near a boiler, fireplace or kitchen for example.
Test your alarm regularly
Test after installation if the detector is functioning well by pushing the test button. The alarm will go off and the red LED lights at CO and GAS will blink. It is recommended to test your alarm monthly to be sure it is still working properly.
Maintenance
The functionality of the carbon monoxide and gas alarm can be influenced by dust and filth, it is therefore important to clean your alarm monthly by using a slightly damp cloth and bi-annually with a vacuum cleaner. You should never use cleaning products or paint the alarm. It is important to check your alarm on a regular base with the testing button. The alarm should be tested monthly in order to be assured that it is well-functioning.
