Prevent accidents
Natural gas, butane and propane are explosive in certain concentrations, and therefore puts your life at risk. If gas is leaking you want to be alerted to act fast. At home natural gas can leak from your boiler or stove, for example. You can prevent lethal accidents by using a gas detector.
24 hours protection
The Smartwares RM400 Gas detector has a loud and clear alarm of 85 dB that goes off if natural gas, propane or butane is detected. The gas alarm is powered by mains electricity and comes with a 9 V back-up battery with a 1 year lifetime. In the event of a power failure, the gas detector uses this back-up battery and can work on it for between 1 and 2 hours. The sensor lifetime is 5 years and offers you 24 hours of protection. You will hear a short beep if the battery is running low, this way you get alerted when you need to replace the battery. It is recommended to monthly test the alarm by pressing the test button.
Installation
It is important to place the gas detector in the right place because some gasses rise and others remain low to the ground. You should place the alarm near the gas source, for example your boiler, stove or gas canisters. If you want to detect natural gas you should place the gas detector a maximum of 30 cm from the ceiling and a maximum of 8 m from the gas source. The green LED light shows you the gas detector is functioning well. It is recommended to plug the adapter directly into the main socket so you cannot turn it off by accident.
Maintenance
The functionality of the gas detector can be influenced by dust and filth, it is therefore important to clean your alarm monthly by using a slightly damp cloth and biannual with a vacuum cleaner. You should never use cleaning products or paint the alarm. You can test the alarm by simply pressing the test button.
